Beginner Diving

This is the perfect activity for children who have no or very little experience learning how to dive.

Activity Details

This is a high risk activity and should be performed and supervised by an experienced instructor. It is strongly recommended to have a lifeguard present for all aquatic activities. If using a private pool with no lifeguard on duty, check with your leader to confirm if he/she is lifeguard certified.

Equipment
  • Pool with a depth of at least 8-10 feet is recommended for beginners.
  • (Optional) diving board
  • Swim suit
  • Towel
  • Sunscreen (for outdoor pools)
  • Water bottle, especially if using an outdoor pool
  • (Optional) Any other items your child typically brings while swimming: gym bag, flip flops

Leader Prep: After learning from the parent which pool they want you to use, verify with the facility the hours the dive pool will be available. Be sure to check if there are any events or competitions scheduled which might interfere with public use.

Parent Prep: Please let your leader know if you have a pool or be able to recommend a local pool. Be prepared to pay pool entry fees if using a public pool.

Child Prep: Ability to swim

Fun with Diving

Learn new types of dives from either the side of the pool or from a diving board.

Instructions

The types of dives practiced will depend on the child's abilities and goals, but might include:

  • Diving from a board with a running start
  • Swan dive
  • Backward
  • Twisting
  • Flips
  • And MORE!

  • A pool at least 10 feet deep
  • (Optional) diving board
  • Swim suit
  • Towel
  • Sunscreen (for outdoor pools)
  • Water bottle, especially if using an outdoor pool
  • (Optional) Any other items your child typically brings while swimming: gym bag, flip flops
